Commuting to ASU and Tempe’s lively downtown from Beacon at 601 is a quick 12 minutes when traffic is light. Even during peak rush hours, you can usually travel the six miles in less than 24 minutes. There are several workable driving routes, giving you ample opportunity to vary your routine. One of the fastest commutes takes you north on Alma School Road and west on University Drive. University Drive runs west to east right through the middle of campus.
If you want to avoid the pricey ASU parking costs, biking and riding public transit are superb commute alternatives. Cycling to campus is a 30-minute ride to ASU. As with driving, cycling routes are plentiful. You can head north on Alma School and west on University if you are heading to central campus sites. Instead, you can also cycle north on Alma School and west on Main Street/Apache Boulevard to get to south campus areas.
Local buses and light rail trains are also quick. The light rail station at Main Street and Alma School Road is an 18-minute walk from the apartments. The train takes you to the University Rural Light Rail Station near ASU’s Tyler Parking Structure in 14 minutes. If you need to get to northern areas of campus such as Wells Fargo Arena, you can continue on the train two minutes to Tempe Transportation Center. If you prefer not to walk 18 minutes to the light rail station, you can walk three minutes to the bus stop at Alma School Road and 6th Avenue and ride the train there.
Accessing life’s essentials is quick and easy when you live at Beacon at 601. Food City and 7-11 are eight blocks away, and Kleinman Park is four blocks from the apartments. Fry’s Food and Drug is a mile-and-a-half to the north, and Safeway is just two blocks beyond that. The two-level Fiesta Mall is less than a mile away, offering stores like Dillards Clearance Center, Kay Jewelers and Hollister and eateries such as Panda Express and Charley’s Grilled Subs.
