The Garden Terrace Apartments are located approximately six miles northwest of the Arizona State University Tempe campus and seven miles northeast of downtown Phoenix. The apartments have a Phoenix address and are close to AZ-101 and AZ-202. If you want to live off campus without spending too much time commuting or often travel to Phoenix and surrounding states, you may find this location suitable to your lifestyle.
The most direct route to campus is through the 202 loop. If you take the loop east and get off at the Scottsdale Road exit, you will cross over Tempe Town Lake into the northern edge of campus in approximately 10 minutes. This road turns into Rural Road once you cross over East Rio Salado Parkway, allowing you to turn off to reach any area of campus. Heading straight through campus on Rural will also take you to a variety of restaurants, shopping centers and entertainment venues located south of campus.
If you prefer to enter campus on the western border, you can take North 49th Street to North 48th Street, turn right onto East McDowell Road, and then take AZ-143 to University Drive. This street cuts through the center of campus, so you can reach the entertainment and sports venues located in north campus or the academic buildings located in south campus.
Since it can take up to 90 minutes to reach ASU by bus or light rail, most Garden Terrace residents depend on their personal vehicles to reach campus or downtown Phoenix. The closest bus stop to the apartment complex is approximately half a mile away at the corner of McDowell Road and 48th Street.
McDowell Road is serviced by bus route 17, and you can use this route to reach restaurants and shopping centers located east or west of the apartments. You can also take this bus route toward Pebble Creek Parkway and get off at the intersection of McDowell and Central Avenue to reach the light rail station. If you ride the train east towards Main Street and Mesa Drive, you will reach the western edge of campus in approximately 30 minutes.
The Phoenix Zoo is approximately three miles southeast of the Garden Terrace Apartment complex, and you can get there in less than 10 minutes by car in light traffic. This area is also home to the Papago Golf Course, Desert Botanical Garden and Papago Softball Complex. There are restaurants and service-oriented businesses scattered around the apartments in all directions.
