The Tempe segment of University Drive is especially attractive since the street bisects the ASU campus. West of the university, the road’s two-mile stretch runs through many downtown streets. Most of the apartment complexes directly on this section of University Drive are a bit older, built in the 1950s and 1960s. They are, however, conveniently close to ASU and a variety of restaurants and shops. You’ll find Rally’s, Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts in this area.
The closer you get to campus, the stores and restaurants become more abundant and more upmarket. Even so, there’s enough variety that every budget can be accommodated. You’ll find Chili’s, Tempe Farmers Market, Chick-fil-A and P.F. Chang’s on University Drive two blocks from campus. Here, you'll be close to all of the dance clubs, pubs and live music venues in downtown Tempe.
To the east of campus, University Drive apartments enjoy easy access to light rail trains at the University Drive/Rural Road station. Apartment developments here are slightly newer than those on the far west side of campus, but they have similarly convenient access to stores and restaurants. Devil’s Advocate Sports Grill, Copper Blues Tempe and Chompie’s are just a few restaurants close to these apartments. Living here also puts you near entertainment at Kolby’s Corner Pocket Billiards, Four Peaks Brewing Company and Creamery Park.
Tempe’s portion of University Drive ends just west of Dobson Road, where there are several apartment developments and local services. Here, you’ll have easy access to gas stations, a hand surgery center, several cafes and quick convenience stores.
