Travel east on University Drive for approximately eight miles from the eastern edge of the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, and you’ll find the Sonoma Villas one block north of University. Positioned on East Covina Street in the city of Mesa, this apartment community offers easy access to the AZ-101 and AZ-202 Loops and US-60. You can commute to the university in less than 20 minutes in light traffic from this location, and the drive to downtown Phoenix is approximately 40 minutes without traffic.
While it takes approximately 40 minutes to bike down University Drive to the ASU campus from the Sonoma Villas, it’s more convenient to use a private vehicle or take the Valley Metro bus. It takes just a few minutes to walk from the apartment complex to the bus stop at University and Gilbert Road. Bus route 30 operates on University, so you can take a westbound bus straight into campus. This trip can take up to one hour each way, depending on how far you ride the bus into campus.
There are buses operating on most main roads surrounding the apartments, and you can take a bus to the light rail station near Veterans Way and College Avenue on campus. There are also Flash buses that make loops around campus, so transitioning between university facilities is always easy.
The Sonoma Villas are located approximately 14 miles southwest of Usery Mountain Regional Park and about eight miles west of Red Mountain District Park. For shopping, you’ll find Superstition Springs Center just over eight miles to the southeast. This center features a series of indoor stores as well as dining options and a playground. Other area attractions include Alta Mesa Golf Club, Longbow Golf Club and Gene Autry Park. While there are multiple Mexican restaurants within a mile of the villas, you’ll also find coffee shops and juice bars in the immediate area.
