At nine-and-a-half miles from ASU, apartments at The Apex on Central are within easy commuting distance of ASU and downtown Tempe. Driving in light traffic to campus takes 18 minutes. Rush hour traffic can increase the drive time to 35 minutes. Several routes to the downtown Tempe/ASU area are viable, with surface streets providing the most direct routes. These surface-street routes include traveling south on 3rd Street and east on Southern Avenue or north on Central Avenue and east on Broadway. Both routes lead to Mill Avenue which runs alongside ASU’s western border. Using eastbound Interstate 10 also works and takes about the same 20 to 35 minutes, but the route is slightly less direct.
To avoid the hassles of driving and the expense of on-campus parking fees, public transportation is often a better alternative to driving. You can catch the Route 61 bus by walking about 10 minutes to the bus stop at Southern and Central avenues. You’ll transfer to a northbound Route 65 bus at Mill and Southern avenues. Route 65 buses serve several campus sites along ASU’s western edge, first stopping near the Gammage Memorial Auditorium and finally dropping off passengers at ASU’s northwestern corner near Sun Devil Stadium. The total public transit trip takes about 45 minutes.
