The Lofts at Rio Salado
If you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to live a short distance from the Arizona State University Tempe campus, you may feel right at home as a resident of The Lofts of Rio Salado. This community is less than two miles north of campus, just over a mile north of the Red Mountain Freeway and a mile south of the Rolling Hills Golf Course. This area is also within five miles of Sky Harbor Boulevard and the Hohokam Expressway, so it’s attractive to many commuters.
When you’re ready to stretch your legs and enjoy the sunshine, take West Washington Street to North Mill Avenue and head south until you cross the Salt River. Tempe Beach Park is located just west of Mill Avenue and runs along the shoreline, and the Hayden Butte Preserve is located on the northwestern corner of the ASU campus.
You can take Mill Avenue to East 5th Street to access the entertainment complexes in the northern end of the campus, including the Sun Devil Stadium and the Wells Fargo Arena. Taking Mill Avenue down to East University Drive will allow you to travel straight through campus. You can head south from this road to find most teaching facilities and many administrative offices.
Many residents of The Lofts depend on their personal vehicles while others take the light rail system. It takes approximately six minutes to drive to the northwestern corner of campus by car, and the trip is closer to 15 minutes on light rail.
To catch the train from the apartment complex, walk down Washington Street to the terminal near the intersection with Center Parkway. You can get off at the Veterans Way and College Avenue intersection or continue riding until you reach a campus stop closer to your destination. Note that the route doesn’t go into the southern regions of campus, so you may need to walk or take a bus once arriving on campus.
The light rail route will take you to the Sun Devil Stadium, Wells Fargo Arena, aquatics complex and other destinations in the northern campus. When you’re up for exploration or fun, you can also take the train southeast of campus to visit a variety of parks, restaurants, movie theaters and sports bars. Riding the light rail northwest from the apartment complex will take you to attractions like Tovrea Castle and the Pueblo Grande Museum & Archaeological Park. This area is also rich with parks, waterside walking trails and golf courses.
