If you’re looking for a Tempe apartment that is close enough to ASU for a quick commute but removed from the bustle of the university, The Mariner is ideal. With the apartments’ location four miles southeast of campus, you can make the commute by car in 11 minutes. That commute time can double with heavy morning and evening traffic. The easiest route to campus is west on Baseline Road, northwest along Lakeshore Drive and north on Rural Road. Southern areas of campus are closest, including Sun Devil Fitness Complex and Gammage Memorial Auditorium.
If you don’t want to pay for parking on campus or deal with the hassle of driving, cycling to the university is a good solution. The ride to campus takes approximately 20 minutes. If you’re heading to buildings on the eastern side of campus, follow the driving route on Baseline and Lakeshore to Rural Road. If your destination is on the west side of campus use Baseline and Lakeshore to access the southbound lane of Rural Road for one block before connecting to westbound Carter Road. From there, you can head north on College Avenue. College Avenue travels along the western edge of campus.
Public transit is another viable alternative. Several bus routes can take you to campus, but the quickest option is a combination of Bus Routes 77 and 65. You’ll begin by walking a block to the westbound Route 77 bus stop at Elm and Baseline. Ride the 77 bus for seven minutes and transfer to a Route 65 bus at Mill Avenue and Baseline Road. Route 65 buses make several stops along the western side of campus, beginning with a stop near Gammage Memorial Auditorium. The entire ride takes 18 minutes.
Many conveniences are within easy walking distance of The Mariner. Fry’s Marketplace is just three blocks to the north of the apartments, and Baseline Village Shopping Center is a block to the east. Target, U.S. Bank, Fast Gas, Radio Shack and numerous coffee houses, restaurants, bars and cafes are five blocks away.
