Transportation
ASU is just five miles away from Vista Valley apartments, but the timing of your commute will most likely determine your mode of transportation and your route. Driving to campus is convenient along surface streets, but the drive may be delayed during morning rush hour. In general, the trip takes 12 minutes, but rush hour commutes take as long as 20 minutes.
If you want to avoid morning traffic and save the cost of ASU parking passes, public transit is available. The quickest transit alternative to driving is a combination of a local bus and the light rail train. To use this transportation method, walk about a half mile to the Route 96 bus stop at Dobson Road and Emelita Avenue. Hop on a northbound Route 96 bus to the light rail station at Main Street and Sycamore. From there, your train ride takes you first to the eastern edge of campus near the psychology buildings in 12 minutes. Ride another two to three minutes, and you’ll be at the northwestern corner of campus near Wells Fargo Arena and Sun Devil Stadium. The entire trip takes 36 to 39 minutes.
You can also bypass the bus and simply drive or bike to the nearest light rail station. This shortens your commute to 12 to 15 minutes. Parking is available near the Main Street and Sycamore light rail station for your convenience.
Tempe is known for its bike-friendly conditions, so biking to campus is a nice alternative to driving and public transit. The ride will take you 27 to 32 minutes, and most routes are relatively flat.
