At 4.3 miles south of ASU, La Estancia apartments put you within easy travel range of the campus without being in the midst of the campus clamor. You can hop in your car and be on campus within 15 minutes if you travel up South Mill Avenue or South Rural Road. The commute time drops to 12 minutes if you take South Kyrene and cut over to South Mill. Travel times will be a little longer if you’re traveling during peak traffic times.
Cycling to ASU or downtown is a greener, cheaper option. Give yourself 25 to 30 minutes to make the trip on your bicycle. It’s easiest to wind your way through the residential streets to either South Mill Avenue or South College Avenue. If you use South Mill, the route involves a short ride on the canal trail. To get to South College, it’s easiest to access the pedestrian crossing over the Superstition Freeway via Palmer Park.
Public transit offers several options for getting to campus. For Route 66 buses, use the bus stop a half-mile from the apartments at Kyrene and Guadalupe roads. Route 66 buses run north along Kyrene/Mill to Tempe Transportation Center. You can disembark at 13th Street by ASU’s Gammage Auditorium, at 11th Street near Katzin Concert Hall, between 10th and 9th streets by the Ceramics Research Center, or you can continue on to stops north of campus. There’s also a Route 62 stop a quarter-mile northeast of the apartments on Guadalupe and Maple. Route 62 buses make the trip to campus in about 30 minutes and drop you at University Drive and the Palo Verde Dorms.
There are many recreation opportunities around La Estancia, with Ken McDonald Golf Course across the street, Benedict Sports Complex a half mile to the west and Celaya Park less than a mile away. Jiffy Lube, McDonald’s, Chevron, a dry cleaner and several auto repair shops are four blocks west. There are dozens of other dining and shopping options about three-quarters of a mile east on Guadalupe Road.
