The Palms On Scottsdale
If you follow Scottsdale Road north from the northernmost edge of the Arizona State University Tempe campus, you will find The Palms on Scottsdale Apartments in approximately two miles. This trip takes less than 10 minutes in light traffic and takes you over the Tempe Town Lake, otherwise known as the Salt River. South of the lake, you’ll pass Packard Baseball Stadium, ASU Karsten Golf Course and the Farrington Softball Stadium.
Once you reach the Scottsdale Road and University Drive intersection, you are near the center of campus. You can venture off on University to travel east or west across campus or continue straight onto Rural Road to reach the academic and administrative buildings in the southern half of the campus.
Rural Road continues south of the campus area and will lead you to a variety of restaurants, sports lounges and entertainment venues like the local bowling alley. You can find even more entertainment and dining options if you head north on Scottsdale from the apartment complex.
If you need to commute to other areas of Tempe or to other cities, The Palms community is just north of the Red Mountain Freeway. The fastest route of transportation to the university and other surrounding destinations is a personal vehicle, but you may also use the Valley Metro bus system.
The nearest bus stop is at the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Hancock Drive, and you need to take the southbound route 72 bus to reach the ASU campus in approximately 15 minutes. The public buses do allow you to store a bicycle on their exterior racks, so you can bus to the campus and then use your bike to travel between facilities.
Once you’re on campus, you can also take the light rail system to explore attractions surrounding ASU. The train runs through the northern half of campus and covers areas further northwest and southeast. Riding the train is a great way to experience more of the ethnic restaurants, pubs and cafes scattered throughout Tempe.
The biggest attractions in this area of Tempe are the outdoor recreation areas. Rio Salado Park is positioned south of the apartment complex on the Salt River shoreline, and the Tempe Town Lake Marina is a short drive or bus ride away. To the west, you have the Rolling Hills Golf Course, Evelyn Hallman Park and Phoenix Zoo. Continue traveling north from the zoo to find even more options for outdoor exploration.
